The first publication to see the light of day was The Taverner, launched in November of that first year. From inception the magazine was positioned to embrace the needs of the diverse reader base in the on-consumption market. Her philosophy was and still is that it didn’t matter whether the reader was based in Sandton or Soweto, he or she needed to know about new product launches, how to mix a mean cocktail, look after keg or bottled beer, serve the best food, pair food and liquor, and how to run a more efficient operation. In a nutshell, anything and everything that would make life a little easier and certainly more entertaining.
The Taverner is published every second month. Posted publications are addressed to owners/managers of pubs, taverns, bars, sports and social clubs, and restaurants.
Non-posted copies are distributed through wholesale liquor outlets dealing specifically with the trade. Copies are also made available to various tavern associations and their members throughout the country. The circulation of the magazine is 10 000.
The editor of the The Taverner is Monique Terrazas on (011) 768 6079 or

The Baker emerged three short months later in early 1997 – its target market the professional baking and milling sectors. It has during its thirteen-year history earned the respect of its reader base for its informative and trustworthy editorial. The editorial coverage is as diverse as the industries it serves, carrying information on specialised ingredients, in-depth features, e.g. Mills and Milling, Bread Plant Systems, Water Chilling, In-store Bakeries, POS, Lubrication, Packaging, Pies and Pastry, Ovens and Ancillary Equipment etc. Other topics embrace Warehousing, Transport, HACCP, Labour Issues, Insurance, Finance and International News. In short, there’s something of interest for everyone.
The Baker, in A5 format, is published monthly from February to November. In December a Year Planner highlighting local and international baking and milling related shows is produced, and in January The Baker Annual Buyers Guide is published in an A4 format. The latter has grown in size and stature in recent years and is the acknowledged “bible” of the industries it serves.
The circulation of the magazine combined with The Butcher is 7 500.

Building on the success of The Baker magazine this website was launched in late 2003. This venture was prompted by the growing belief and confidence in Internet communication – a belief unequivocally shared by Newstreet Publishers. While still maintaining an evident passion for the printed word, a compromise was clearly called for. By employing the professional skills at the company’s disposal and encouraging new and innovative concepts, The Baker now embraced both worlds. www.thebaker.co.za brings the baking, milling and confectionery industries and their suppliers together in one location, providing an invaluable communication to local and international news and information.
www.thebaker.co.za gives direct access online to The Baker magazine on a monthly basis, allowing browsers to select only those articles relevant to their business and interests. It further supplies a comprehensive database of support services, essential products and ingredients by category, ensuring direct access to company information and contact details. Updated on a regular basis, this is undeniably the most comprehensive specialist data base of suppliers to the baking, milling and confectionery industries within the continent of Africa.
Visitors to www.thebaker.co.za are drawn from key personnel and decision makers of bakeries large, medium and small; mills; supermarkets; convenience stores and fast food chains as well as suppliers of essential commodities. The average hit rate is 280 000 per month.
